How medical abortion via teleconsultation works:

  • Connector.

    Step 1

Your GP refers you to Dr Marie using our online patient referral form.

  • Connector.

    Step 2

Your GP arranges for you to have a blood test and ultrasound, nominating Dr Marie to receive the results.

  • Connector.

    Step 3

Once the results of the blood test and ultrasound are confirmed, you will be contacted by a member of our National Support Centre team to organise an appointment, confirm your details and make payment.

  • Connector.

    Step 4

After the appointment is made, a Dr Marie nurse will take your medical history and answer any questions you may have about the procedure.

  • Connector.

    Step 5

On the day of the teleconsultation, the doctor will ensure you understand the medical abortion process, gain your consent and ensure that you are aware of the process for follow up, including the need for a further blood test 7-10 days following medication to confirm the termination.

  • Connector.

    Step 6

Following the teleconsultation, your Dr Marie patient pack is delivered to your preferred address within 1-3 business days. The pack includes
your medication, a pathology referral for the follow-up blood test and a discharge letter in case emergency care is required.

  • Connector.

    Step 7

If you have any concerns during or following the medical abortion, you can speak to a Dr Marie nurse via our 24-hour aftercare service on 1300 003 707.

  • Connector.

    Step 8

14 days after the medical abortion has taken place, a nurse will call you to see how you are feeling and discuss the results of the follow-up blood test. If you are experiencing any symptoms of concern or the blood test results do not indicate a successful abortion, a doctor will contact you to discuss your options.
